The Delhi Daredevils is the franchise cricket team of Indian Premier League. It represents the city of Delhi. GMR Group and JSW Group owned the franchise team. Feroz Shah Kotla Ground is the home ground of the team. The team never managed to appear in an IPL final and often ended up as the Wooden Spooners. Virender Sehwag is the leading run scorer, and Amit Mishra is the leading Wicket-taker for Delhi Daredevils.
The Property Development Company GMR Group paid $84 Million for Delhi Daredevils. GMR sold 50% share of the team to JSW Sports for $77 Million. Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar was the Brand Ambassador of the team.
Feroz Shah Kotla Ground is the home ground of the team. Feroz Shah Kotla Ground is the Second oldest Cricket Stadium in Delhi, India. Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium, Raipur is the secondary home ground of the team.
The daredevils dominated for IPL 2009 at the top of the table. Sehwag and Gambhir developed likes significantly. AB de Villers hit one century while Manish Pandy made another century. The batting of Delhi Daredevils was most reliable in the season’s tournament. DD collapsed in the Semifinals, despite dominating for the season. The team didn’t manage to get into the final.
After a mediocre season of 2011, the Daredevils come back strongly and became toppers again in 2012. Morne Morkel was the highest wicket-taker in the tournament. They purchased players such as Kevin Peterson, Mahela Jayawardene and Ross Taylor. Also, the franchise appointed Mahela Jayawardene as the new captain of the team.
The Daredevils lost six matches and won only one match against Mumbai Indians. Furthermore, they failed to Kings XI Punjab. In next match, they won against Pune Warriors India. Following this, they defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by seven wickets. They gave a comfortable win to the Sunrises Hyderabad. They lost against Rajasthan Royals, and the loss eliminated the team from the tournament.
The franchise didn’t retain any players from their current squad. They experienced another miserable season. In their first match, they lost against Royal Challengers Bangalore. However, they managed to win against Kolkata Knight Riders. Chennai Super Kings and Sunrises Hyderabad defeated the Daredevils. To conclude, they only won two of their fourteen matches and a disappointing season finishing last.
In IPL Season 2015, they finished with the seventh position on the table.
Delhi daredevils improved the way they play compared to the last three season performance. The team won five of its seven matches. But they couldn’t qualify for the semifinals.
The team lost its main players but had the best bowling line up. They against Bangalore while won against Pune and Punjab. They lost five matches in arrow but managed to get back on the line. The team won Sunrises Hyderabad and Gujarat Lions. They ended up with six wins and eight losses.
